Solo Travel Tips

Congratulations on doing a trip for YOU! Traveling solo is one of the most beautiful ways to get to know yourself better, and especially to remind yourself of just how capable you are.

It's okay if you're feeling a bit nervous, that's totally normal! The nerves are just your body feeling excited about the journey you're about to dive into.

Here are a few things that may help with your journey:

Take a deep breath. You're going to be okay.

Whenever you're feeling overwhelmed before or during your trip, come back to your breath. Our breath is the most powerful tool that we have to bring us back to the present moment.

Send your entire itinerary to one of your loved ones, and keep them updated throughout your trip.

Sometimes our friends and family are more worried for us than we are, and project those fears onto us. Help calm their nerves by keeping them up to date with where you are and how things are going.

Especially if you're traveling from one city to another and won't have service, give them a heads up so they don't panic if they aren't hearing from you.

Get a SIM card so you can look up information whenever needed and communicate with your loved ones if you don't have international data.

We are so lucky that in today's world we are able to travel with our smart phones. You can chat with your loved ones through text or WhatsApp, and search for placed to go from the maps on your phone.  â€‹

Download an Offline Google Map for where you'll be staying.

That way when you're running out of data, you know exactly where to go. Be sure to pin the following places beforehand:

  • where you're staying

  • local hospital

  • pharmacies in the area

Get Travel Insurance!

It's important to make sure that you and your valuables are covered while you are traveling. If you book your trip through your travel credit card, check to see if they already offer travel insurance.

For travel health insurance, you can also purchase a plan through a site like Atlas Travel

Be Smart.

Check how safe the location of where you're staying is before you book your stay.

Don't walk alone at night.

Be careful about who you share your plans with during your trip.

Be mindful of your alcohol intake if you're hanging out with new people.

Bring a Tripod.

Why rely on getting bland photos from strangers when you can do it yourself?

Bonus if you have an Apple Watch and can connect it to your phone to make it easier to get those aesthetic shots!

Bring a Kindle or a book to read.

Especially during long travel days or when you're eating alone, it's a great time to dive into a book (and won't feel as awkward eating by yourself).
